LoveItMore is a site for product reviews. What makes it different is that it focuses on the follow-up review; after all, those second impressions are the ones that really matter.
Why we need it:
The problem with product reviews is that most of the time, they’re all about first impressions. They’re all about “features”. They’re all about the superficial stuff - how something looks, rather than how it works. But we all know that the initial excitement from buying something new can wear off quickly. Sometimes it even turns into remorse if we realize that the product isn’t really as great as we originally thought it was. Often we find little quirks with the product too - little details that surprise us in ways both good and bad. Right now there’s no reviews site built with the follow-up review in mind.
How it works:
You sign on, specify an item to review, and type a quick first-impression. When you do this, you also set a reminder for the follow-up review. Say I just bought a new Product Red iPod nano. I could write an initial review like this:
Love the color, love the cause. The screen is a lot brighter than my old iPod!
Then I’d set it to remind me in 1 month to post a follow-up review. That seems like a nice amount of regular use to really get a good second-impression. In a month’s time, I’d get an email reminding me to post my follow-up. Maybe all I’d have to do is reply to the email with my thoughts and it’d automatically post the follow-up (instead of having to click a link and go to a site and login, etc). For instance, the follow-up to my iPod review might read something like this:
I still LOVE my red nano - the aluminum surface doesn’t get scratched up at all - it still seems brand new! My one minor complaint is that I wish the battery life was just a little longer, but this thing still rules.
Another possible element of this follow-up review could be a simple rating system with three options asking if you 1) love the item less than when you first bought it, 2) love the item just as much, or 3) love it more.
Final Thoughts:
To get LoveItMore to really work as a standalone site, there has to be some incentive for participating (since you’re being asked to review the same thing twice, and a lot of people don’t even have time to review something once!). Maybe it would be better off rolled into another site like All Consuming. Either way, LoveItMore is a site that can help us identify the truly great and usable products that are more than just good looks and a lot of features.
I like how “longterm” thinking things out is finding its way it yet another great idea.
good idea.i think the initial review can add one question: will you use this product often? and the follow-up review can add another question: how often do you use this product?
i think the result must be very interesting and good for analysing.
Nice thought - I think there’s an overall trend of products passively collecting data - for instance, how many minutes you’ve spent talking on your cellphone. The Nintendo Wii records your play times too! I bet there are some really interesting things you can do with that data if it were publicly available.
